Shaolin Kungfu Courses

Our next Shaolin Kungfu Beginners Course will be held in Helsinki in Spring 2010.

The course starts on thursday of March 18th at 8pm, and classes will be held weekly until early June.

Shaolin Kungfu is not only an effective traditional martial art, but also a comprehensive program for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development. The skills developed from practicing are very useful for combat situations as well as in our everyday lives, in both work and play. Shaolin Kungfu offers its practitioner radiant physical and mental health, skill to defend oneself, and a path to spiritual cultivation.

In our beginners course participants will be initiated into the fundamentals of Shaolin combat application and internal force training. Previous experience in martial arts or chi kung is not required, but participants are expected to be sufficiently healthy for vigorous, consistent practice, and to be prepared to work hard to achieve course objectives. The basic requirement for applying for the course is to accept to follow the Ten Shaolin Laws.

Personal Practice

It is essential that the students practice what they are taught on a daily basis. While there is only one formal class per week with Sifu Markus, students are encouraged to meet and train with each other outside of the regular classes in addittion to their personal individual practice. Sifu or a senior brother will commonly be available on extra sessions to offer advice and assistance when required.

Uniform

There is no set uniform within either the Kungfu or the Chi Kung classes, instead students should wear loose, comfortable clothing. It is not advisable to train in bare feet, so indoor shoes or trainers will be required. Anyone with jewellery or piercings is advised to either remove them or to cover them with tape to help prevent accidents.

Class Etiquette

Each class will start promptly at the stated time and the students should be ready to begin the classes then. If a student is persistently late without good reason, or if they stand around talking instead of getting changed, then they may be asked to leave the class. Please read:
